In Karnataka two Assembly by-elections registered a record polling of 75.8 per cent

An election official said that By-polls for the Karnataka twin assembly segments, Chincholi and Kundagol registered record polling of 75.8 percent by 6: 00 p.m.
 
The senior poll official A. Surya Sen said to IANS that, “Around 70.30 % was recorded in Chincholi and 81.33% in Kundagol after all over the voters who were still in the queue even after 6:00 p.m. cast their ballots in the EVMs”. The vote result is on May 23.
 
Surya Sen said that “Though voting was slow in the first four hours, it picked up later despite a hot day in peak summer. Barring a few complaints of glitches in Electronic Voting Machines(EVMs), polling was by and large peaceful in both seats”.
 
A total of 3.83 lakh voters, and in that 1,93,869 voters in Chincholi, and 1,89,313 in Kundagol.
 
As much as 25 candidates, including fur women, opposed the two by-elections with 17 in Chincholi and 8 in Kundagol.
 
Main candidates in Chincholi are Avinash Umesh Jadhav of BJP, Subhash V. Rathod of Congress and Gautam Bommali of BSP party.
