India signs deal with a Russian firm to produce 7.5 Lac AK-203 rifles
In his first public address since 2014 in Uttar Pradesh's Amethi, the parliamentary constituency of Congress president Rahul Gandhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Ordinance rifle factory and launched various welfare projects.
He said that the AK-203 rifles to be manufactured in Amethi will be one of the world's most modern guns and will give an edge to our troops in their fight against terrorists and Maoists. He made the statement amidst the recent attacks on India. “This Ordinance Factory Board unit has been lying idle for so many years unfortunately due to the negligence of previous governments,” Modi alleged.
On this note, Modi has thanked Vladimir Putin, the Russian President Modi for supporting India with this venture in a short span of time. He then went on attacked the Congress government for ignoring the promises. He also said that though BJP lost there, they have won people’s hearts. “Smriti Irani has worked so hard for the development of this region. She never made you feel whether you made her win or lose, she worked more than the person who won here,” he noted.
Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman who also participated in the inauguration ceremony of the plant lauded Modi for his dedication in completing the project. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi played a crucial role in closing this deal. He talked with all possible leading manufacturers about it. We are going to make the world-famous AK-47 assault rifle here,” she added.
Modi also emphasized the ordinance factory's role in creating job opportunities for youth. Union Minister Smriti Irani, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and others were also present on the occasion.
