Jammu and Kashmir will be split into two Union Territories
Today, the home minister of India 'Amit Shah' has announced in parliament that Article 370 has been scrapped. The government has also announced that it wants parliament to clear a proposition that bifurcates the state of Jammu and Kashmir into two really semi-state union territories.
Jammu & Kashmir will be another union territory just like Delhi whereas Ladhak will be other union territory but without its own assembly. J&K will have its own assembly.
Amit Shah said the suggested union territorial status for Jammu and Kashmir is based on a cross-border terrorism-fuelled evaluation of the "current safety scenario." Article 370 gave Kashmir its own constitution and limited the authority of the centre to decide on defense, communications, and internal matters. The centre had to obtain the permission of the state legislature for any other region.
Article 370 also prohibited the people of other states from purchasing property or claiming public employment and academic scholarships in Jammu & Kashmir. The BJP argues that these clauses are "constitutionally susceptible" and discriminatory, inhibiting the state's growth.
Thousands of troops were sent in Kashmir to control the situation after removing the Article 370. Last night, the former chief minister of J&K “Mahbooba Mufi” and Umar Abdullah was also put in house arrest.
The mobile internet and phone connection were cut and school and college were remain shut. Omar Abdullah and Mahbooba Mufti show their anger on Twitter after this act. They are not happy with this decision.
