Janasena is Game Changer in 2019 Assembly Polls?
With less than a month for the assembly polls, the political landscape of Andhra Pradesh has changed completely. The alliances between parties are also in a complete reversal, with the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) now facing a serious threat from the main opposition YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), and finding itself without an alliance partner before the forthcoming assembly and Lok Sabha elections.
In 2014, the TDP had won 102 seats (in a pre-poll alliance with the BJP), the YSRCP won 67 seats, and the BJP four out of the 175 assembly seats. TDP got that majority in 2014 as they team up with Janasena and BJP but now in 2019, it is difficult for TDP as Janasena is contesting on their own and they might split the vote share that favors YSRCP.
Pawan Kalyan’s political base is the numerous Kapu community in the state and numbers are hard to come by for their population across the state. Numbers vary from 8 percent to 15 percent to 27 percent. Numbers aside they are a significant force in the state and have pockets of concentration in the Godavari districts.
Jana Sena's debut is being watched with a rare mix of curiosity. The only question is who gets to benefit? Naidu or Jagan? Or it is a Hung Government in 2019?
