The Maharashtra Cabinet on Monday cleared 10% reservation in jobs and education for the economically weaker section among upper castes.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis tweeted a graphic that said families, whose collective annual income is less than Rs 8 lakh -- through sources such as farming, salaries, business-industry -- are considered as economically backward in this case.
"#Maharashtra Cabinet 10 percent reservation for the economically poor in Maharashtra," Fadnavis said on Twitter.
Quotas in the state already exceed a Supreme Court-mandated cap of a maximum 50% reservation in a state.
