Electricity Minister P. Thangamani and Municipal Administration Ministers S.P. Velumani, who approached Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal on Monday on issues not related to the Railway Ministry. They met Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi on Tuesday, again on the same issues, which usually do not fall under Home Ministry.
However, the approval of two lakh houses for Cyclone Gaja- effected districts was one of the severe requests that are made to the Union Ministers, neither the Deputy Chief Minister, O. Pannerselvam (handling the housing portfolio), not the Minister of Revenue and Disaster Management, R.B. Udhayakumar, attended the meeting. The statement stated, “On behalf of the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, I convey my heartiest congratulations to you on assuming the Office of the Ministry of Home Affairs under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Modiji.”
In the statement, Mr. Velumani requested the Home Minister to sanction the permission of Rs 560.15 crore for 2017-18 for the rural and urban local bodies of the State, under the 14th Central Finance Commission. Originally, the dues for the local people are distributed by the Union Ministry of Panchayati Raj.
In that statement, they also sought Amit Shah’s intervention for implementing certain railway infrastructure-related works in Tamil Nadu.
