MNM starts candidate selection for local body elections

Actor turned as a politician Kamal Hassan’s Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) has started its process of the nominating candidates for the Local Body elections in the state.
After a delay caused due to Legal mess, the Tamil Nadu government is gearing up to hold the polls, which was last conducted in the year 2011, and a newspaper after delimitation of wards.
The 14-month-old party is giving a push for the Local Body elections, as per the senior party workers.
MNM lacks a strong base in rural areas. The party’s candidate fared well in the Urban and Semi-Urban areas in the recent elections. Therefore, the party is giving importance to the local body elections to have its representation in every panchayat and corporation. “We are looking at these elections as an opportunity to build a strong grassroots level structure in the rural pockets,” stated another party worker.
A party member says that in the state there were 12 corporations,123 municipalities, 529 town panchayats, 385 panchayat unions, and 12,524 village panchayats, the party has a very tough task to identify good candidates. “We have started the selection process to identify candidates for panchayat-level councilors to the mayor posts. The process began on Wednesday.”
