No review meetings until May 23rd: Orders issued by the EC
The Election Commission has yet again become the subject to speculations in Andhra Pradesh with its orders to halt the Polavaram project’s review meetings. After facing criticism for the way it conducted the elections on April 11th, the EC sent notices to the state government upon the complaint received from the opposition YSRCP. However, the Chief Minister can hold video conferences.
AP Chief Minister held a review meeting on the Polavaram Project works as well as capital foundation works yesterday after which the YSR Congress approached the EC that it would breach the Model Code of Conduct. According to the ruling party, some of the major works belonging to the Polavaram project should be completed before the rains hit the state and hence, the work has been progressing at a fast pace.
On the other hand, the step taken by the EC is receiving sharp comments on the social media that the institution is responding to every complaint of the YSRCP unlike never before and this seems stupidity to halt the works of the national project which will help solve the water scarcity in many remote parts of Rayalaseema. The state government has nothing to do but to bring the progress made in the projects stand-still.
