On this day Dhoni has hit the winning SIX in 2011 WC Final!
Yes! It was 8 years since Team Indian former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni lifted the ICC World Cup in 2011 in Wankade. It was a historic moment in the Indian Cricket history as Team India has lifted the world cup after 28 years that day. India won its first world cup in 1983 under Kapil Dev’s captaincy beating WestIndies, the two-time champion than at the finals.
Going to the past, India hosted the 2011 World Cup along with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh as title favorites. India lost to South Africa and Tied a match with England in the group stage and won the rest. After that, they beat Australia in Quarterfinals and thrashed arch-rivals Pakistan in the Semis to play Sri Lanka in the Finals.
With Mahela Jayawardane’s Lanka posted 274 on the board and India despite crumbling early in the innings by losing Sachin and Sehwag retaliated with Gautam Gambhir’s fight and Dhoni’s excellence to steal the trophy.
The bat MS Dhoni used to hit the 2011 World Cup final-winning six holds the record for being the most expensive cricket bat in history. Dhoni's bat was bought by Mumbai-based brokerage firm RK Global for £100,000 (then ₹72 lakh) at a charity dinner in London, three months after the final. The proceedings went to Dhoni's wife's charitable organization.
