The Former Finance Minister P Chidambaram, who is in CBI detention in the case of INX Media, informed the Supreme Court on Tuesday that the probe agency wants to 'embarrass' him with his arrest. He questioned how, for an alleged offence with review effect, called a 'kingpin'.
As the supreme court stretched the interim protection from arrest given to Mr Chidambaram on 23rd August in the suspected bribery case lodged by the Enforcement Directorate until today, the family of Mr Chidambaram claimed that the motivation of the government was to "demonize and humiliate" him.
Karti Chidambaram, son of the former Union Minister said in a declaration on Twitter that they oppose the government to generate a shred of evidence to support one unspecified bank account, an unspecified estate or a limited company anywhere in the globe.
In the event of INX Media, Karti Chidambaram is also an indicted and is on bail. The senior advocate AM Singhvi, who appeared for Mr Chidambaram, said during his hearing the former Union minister was not cagey and liaised completely in the investigation.
He said representing his client that Directorate of Enforcement wants to arrest him, but why? The response is-humiliate me, humiliate me and humiliate me, minute by minute and hour by hour. He said the case was filed by the probe agency in 2017, while the supposed offences are from the 2007-2008 period.
