PM Narendra Modi files nomination from Varanasi
 
Prime Minister Narendra Modi filed his nomination papers for the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat on Friday, after offering prayers at the Kalabhairava Temple. He filed his nomination papers with the returning officer accompanied by BJP and NDA leaders from all around the country.
 
Party president Amit Shah, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and senior Union ministers Rajnath Singh and Sushma Swaraj, were also present on the occasion. The sympathizers arrived in large numbers to catch a glimpse of Modi.
 
Though it was anticipated that General Secretary of AICC, Priyanka Gandhi who is now quite active in the political circles would contest from Varanasi, reasons were still unknown of why she withdrew from the race. Congress fielded Ajay Rai who was defeated previously. In 2014, Modi won the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat, defeating Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal by a massive margin of 3.37 lakh vote. 
 
Prior to the nomination, Modi has participated in the Ganga Aarti at the Dashashwamedh ghat took out a huge rally in Varanasi town with enthusiastic participation by party cadres.
