DMDK leader Vijayakant on Saturday returned to Chennai from the U.S. after undergoing medical treatment there for close to two months. He was welcomed by thousands of party cadre at the Chennai airport.
Mr. Vijayakant was accompanied by DMDK treasurer and his wife Premalatha. Speaking to reporters at the airport, Ms. Premalatha said, “The election dates have not been announced and political parties are yet to announce their alliance partners."
Ms. Premalatha said that all the “so-called big parties” were speaking to the DMDK and that the party leader would announce his decision soon.
“Not only national parties, but all big parties in Tamil Nadu are also speaking to us. He [Vijayakant] has formed a committee to look into alliance possibilities. After consultation with party members, he will announce the alliance soon,” Ms. Premalatha said.
Mr. Vijayakant’s return to the city just before the Lok Sabha election had rejuvenated the cadre, sources from the party said.
