Four Army men, including a Major, and a civilian have been killed in an ongoing encounter in south Kashmir's Pulwama on Monday morning.
The place of encounter is just 15 km away from the car bomb explosion site at Lethpora, which left 40 CRPF jawans dead on February 14.
On Sunday night, a joint team of J-K Police, army and paramilitary forces cordoned off Pinglana village of Pulwama following inputs that two to three militants are present in the village.
As the joint team of forces was zeroing in on the target house, militants opened indiscriminate fire. In the initial exchange of fire, five army men were injured who were rushed to the army’s 92 Base Hospital in Srinagar. Four of the soldiers including a Major, however, succumbed to injuries.
“There was firing only initial half an hour and then it stopped, ” said a police officer. “The searches in the area continue”, he added. At around 8.45 am Monday, a fresh exchange of fire started in which a civilian was also killed. Locals said that both sides are trading heavy fire.
