The PWD minister HD Revanna resigned from his ministerial post to save his brother’s government. He has transferred 284 engineers of the PWD department. Along with the 33 other councils of ministers, handed over their resignations. Include two superintendent engineers (SEs), 40 executive engineers (EEs), 34 assistant executive engineers(AEEs), 109 assistant (AEs) and 99 junior engineers(JEs).
The senior officer form the PWD department said: “what is astonishing is the minister has initiated the transfer and promotion process without even fixing out if positions are vacant across the department where these engineers are to be posted.” At that time of transferring 270 engineers are waiting for posts in several departments including water resources, rural development, and panchayat raj, housing and urban development. While sending 24 engineers back to the department. The urban development department had asked the PWD not to transfer any engineers without consultation.
The officer said “while the objections are still pending before the ACS, it would be inappropriate to effect promotions without addressing the objections. But the department is going ahead with the promotion process at the best of the minister.”
Revanna’s continue with the promotion of engineers has made a divide between engineers on categories. Engineers form to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes are asking that the promotion process should be initiated only after accommodating Dalit engineers whose demotion had been reversed in the reservation in promotion case, the general category engineers have supported the minister.
President, Karnataka Engineers Association DS Devaraj said the transfers and promotions are legal and “is in accordance with the government’s policy. I don’t see anything wrong in it,” he said.
