Congress president Rahul Gandhi rejected the pleas made by his fellow Lok Sabha members to stay on as the party chief.
When Congress leaders argued about the party requiring his leadership, Mr. Gandhi said, “I am willing to work 24 hours for the Congress party but not as the party chief.”
On May 25, two days after the Lok Sabha results, the Congress chief had announced to the Congress Working Committee (CWC) that he would step down as the party president.
