A Russian national was one of the organisers of the rave party busted by the police at a farm resort near here on Friday night.
According to the police, Illy Zorin, 30, of Astrakhan in Russia, was one of the 14 persons arrested under various provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
He was on a tourist visa. His passport and visa were seized by the police.
“Zorin was one of the organisers of the party. He is believed to have operated out of Goa,” said Superintendent of Police Sujit Kumar.
As the foreigner was involved in a drug case, the police would report the incident to the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Chennai, Mr. Kumar said, adding that the police would also initiate proceedings for the cancellation of Zorin’s tourist visa.
The police arrested and released 152 persons, who took part in the rave party. One of the organisers is at large.
Mr. Kumar, who led the early morning raid at the resort, said the organisers had promoted it as a psychedelic rock event on social media, mainly Instagram.
A publicity material of the party stated that the event was a private gathering. The party had four live performances and two DJ performances. The special police that busted the party held at the Agri Nest farm resort had seized ecstasy, hashish and ganja, widely abused in psychedelic music parties.
“After getting a tip-off late on Friday, a special team of 30 police personnel was formed by midnight. The team reached the resort in private vehicles not to give any hint to the organisers of the party. The resort was surrounded by the police team at 4 a.m. and conducted searches after making all the participants of the party sit in a placeand ,” said Mr. Kumar.
