State Government looking into the setup of ‘Away From Reactor’ facility

Environment Minister K.C. Karuppannan has stated that the State government will take ‘appropriate decision’ to set up the ‘Away From Reactor’ used up fuel storage facility in the Kundankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP) site as CM Edappadi K. Palaniswami is briefly examining the issue.
Mr Karuppannan after involving in the Environment Day’ celebration, stated that AIADMK government that close down Sterlite copper unit at Thoothukudi, regarding people’s affection, would take “appropriate decision” on setting up the “Away From Reactor” facility also, stated to media at Kovilpatti.
Mr. Karuppannan stated that “As electricity and fuel are highly essential for development, a right decision on this issue will be taken by the Chief Minister without affecting public sentiments.”
The Minister advised that the decision had been taken to set up new precipitators in chimneys off industrial units to keep smoke spreading with dangerous chemical particles. As digital observing equipment to protect air condition had been made by the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board in all these units, sewage discharge of smoke with harmful chemicals from any industrial company could be observed online from Chennai so that spot action will be taken.

In the same way, discharge of sewage with effective chemicals form the industrial units are being monitored, he stated.
