Don’t forget to pack your umbrellas when you set out for the polling booths on Tuesday. The State is likely to receive strong summer showers till Tuesday, the day of the Lok Sabha polls in the State, the IMD forecast on Friday said.
IMD has also issued a ‘yellow alert’ for Palakkad, signalling the possibility of heavy rainfall (seven to 11 cms in 24 hours) in the district on Saturday.
A few places in the State are likely to experience thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds and lightning from Saturday to Tuesday. Also likely on Saturday and Monday are strong winds touching speeds of 40-50 kmph, the IMD said.
Meanwhile, Palakkad continues to experience hot summer weather, even as the day temperatures have dipped in other districts. Maximum temperature in Palakkad on Thursday was recorded at 40.8 degrees, 4.4 degrees above the normal.
With summer showers gathering strength over Kerala, daily power consumption also has dipped. On Thursday, State-level consumption stood at 75.94 million units (MU), according to the KSEB’s load despatch centre.
On Tuesday, it had been as high as 86.82 MU, the second highest recorded by the KSEB.
Daily consumption levels had set a record on April 13, when the consumption touched 88.1 MU.
