Supreme Court judge Ranjan Gogoi accused of sexual harassment
Ranjan Gogoi, the Chief Justice of India was accused of sexual assault in an affidavit addressed to the Supreme Court. A former junior Court assistant who worked approached the apex court on April 19, 2019.
The woman also wrote to 22 other Supreme Court judges on Friday, alleging he twice made sexual advances in the office of his official residence in October last year. She alleged that she was abruptly detained from her post and her family had been harassed thereafter.
She has alleged that after the sexual harassment happened on Oct 11, 2018, The Supreme Court has denied the allegations saying that the officer's claims contradict the complaint and that there was never any occasion for the CJI to interact with her.
"I have taken this unusual and extraordinary step of sitting in court today because things have gone too far," Gogoi said. He also said the woman had a criminal background and that the media must act responsibly on reporting the allegations.
