Supreme Court verdict used to attack devotees: Amit Shah

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah did not hesitate from raising the Sabarimala issue in his campaign meeting at Thekkinkadu Maidan here on Tuesday as he sought to allege that the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government used the Supreme Court verdict on women’s entry to the temple to unleash violence against devotees.

Alleging that Democratic Youth Federation of India cadre were sent in the guise of police to attack Ayyappa devotees, he said FIRs had been registered against 30,000 people. “There are so many Supreme Court verdicts. Why the LDF government acted swiftly only in the Sabarimala case. I am here to promise that the BJP will stand strong with the Sabarimala devotees,” he said.

“Our manifesto has clearly said that the BJP will convince the Supreme Court about the need for upholding the traditions of Sabarimala. The party will go to any extent to save the sanctity of Sabarimala,” he said.

Mr. Shah said only the Narendra Modi government could ensure the security of the country.

“The Modi government gave a fitting reply within days to terrorists of the Pulwama attack by showering bombs at Balakot. Then the Congress and Communists are asking for proof. Their leader Sam Pitroda is asking why should there be such an attack for a crime committed by three or four people. Rahul Gandhi’s party wants discussion with terrorists. But Modi will never have any talks with terrorists,” the BJP president said.

Listing the development projects implemented by the Modi government for Kerala, he alleged that the LDF had been a total failure in development activities.

Citing the amicus curie report on last year’s floods, Mr. Shah said inefficiency of the LDF government had caused the floods. The report even said the LDF government failed to utilise the help given by the Centre. The LDF government had no moral right to continue in power even for a second, he said.

Alleging that 40-odd BJP/RSS activists had been killed since the Pinarayi government came to power, Mr. Shah asked why most of them were killed in the district of the Chief Minister. He alleged that “525 mob lynching incidents” happened during time of the LDF government.

“The Congress is finished in the country and the Communism had been wiped out from the world itself. Only the BJP can lead the country forward,” the BJP president said.

He concluded his speech by asking to vote for Suresh Gopi, the NDA candidate in the Thrissur Lok Sabha constituency. BJP district president A. Nagesh presided.
