Terror Alert: Tamil Nadu still on high alert

Chennai: As per the latest update the state is still under the terror alert as the SID (Special Investigation Division) has picked up Siddiqui, a resident from Mannadi in Chennai. He has been nabbed at a hideout in Coimbatore. Police says that Siddiqui is a close assistant of Rahim Kolliyil, a Kochi woman, who has been identified by the Central agency as 'Facilitators of the infiltrators'.

The SID has also arrested Zaheer, who belong to Ponvizhi Nagar at Ukkadam in Coimbatore, as he is in contact with Siddiqui over a phone. SID and the DIG G Karthikeyan has interrogated Siddiqui and Zaheer at Karunya Nagar police station.

A special commando force has been conducting anti-sabotage checks at various places of Coimbatore. Almost 2000 police personnel were deployed at Coimbatore city. Various commando teams have been formed, comprising of 20 personnel, led by an inspector and two subinspectors. Armed teams are guarding at 14 checkpoints across the Tamil Nadu and Kerala Border.  Almost 11 quick response teams and 840 police personnel are stationed in rural areas.

A Police official says that as the Ganesh Chathurthi festival and Velankanni festival is nearing, police personnel will be arranged at various places to prevent any illegal activities. The police also patrolling the beaches near Basilica of Our Lady of Good Health, Velankanni, to check for any infiltrations.
