The Ashes: England levels the series but Aussies retains the Urn
England defeated Australia by 135 runs in the fifth Test as 2019 Ashes ended in a 2-2 draw. This is the first time since 1972 that an Ashes series ended in a draw. Australia won 14 of the 24 Ashes series played between the two drawn series. Overall, it is the sixth time that an Ashes series ended in a draw.
Coming to the match, England gained vital 69 runs lead in the first innings and showed their dominance on the day 3 with an impressive knock from Joe Denly who missed his hundred by a whisk. His innings was appreciated by Stokes and Butler to put a mammoth 398 runs target in front of the Kangaroos.
Australians never found their way in their chase as the openers have become the bunnies of the England bowlers once again. The Greatest Test Cricketer of this generation, Steve Smith was trapped by Broad and Stokes which vaporised the Aussie hopes. But Wade stepped up with a fighting 117 just to delay the proceedings.
Steven Smith and Ben Stokes were adjudged the Players of the Series. Thought the Series was drawn, Ashes remains with the Aussies as they are the defending Champions.
