Three TRS supported candidates tastes defeat in MLC elections
A major jolt to TRS party as three of its candidates backed by the party lost in the elections to the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda Teachers’ constituency and the Karimnagar-Nizamabad-Adilabad Teachers’ and Graduates’ constituencies. In the results declared on Tuesday, TRS-backed candidates were confined to the third place.
Pula Ravinder, sitting MLC and Progressive Recognized Teachers’ Union (PRTU) candidate was backed by TRS lost to Alugubelli Narsi Reddy, United Teachers’ Front (UTF) candidate who is supported by CPM with a difference of 2,757 votes in Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda Teachers’ constituency.
TRS-backed candidate M Chandrasekhar Goud secured third place in Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar Graduates’ constituency. Jeevan Reddy, Congress candidate, and Ex-MLA won by 39,000 votes while BJP backed candidate Sugunakar Rao came second.
Polling for MLC seats was held on March 22, in which TRS had seen the first defeat ever since Telangana was declared. The pink party has been winning all elections including Medak Lok Sabha and assembly polls, MLC elections, Rajya Sabha election, and recently-held gram panchayat elections.
All the parties took these elections on serious note despite the fact that they are held on a non-party basis. Parties like TRS, Congress, BJP, and CPM have fielded their supporters as candidates in the elections and had even deployed their MLAs and ministers for campaigning.
