Union Minister Ramdas says the rise in inter-caste marriages in Karnataka is a positive sign
Union Minister of state social justice and empowerment Ramdas Athawale said the number of Dalit marrying individuals from other communities has increased in the state from 2,041 in the year of 2014-15 to 5,273 in 2019 to 20.
“Our ministry will reward a couple with Rs 3 lakh if a Dalit girl marries a Savarna boy and if a Dalit boy marries a Savarna girl, they will be given Rs 2.5 lakh,” said Athawale.
“In 2015, there were 3,594such cases, while in 2018, there were 5,022. This is unfortunate and the government must ensure there is no such increase in the future,” he said.
Minister said, “There are 2,497 manual scavengers in the state and 78 manual scavengers died between 1993 and 2013 after being forced to enter sewers. We’re ready to approve a loan of up to Rs 50 lakh at the rate of 4% for municipalities to purchase machinery that will do the work for them. They can apply for as many machines as they need.”
“We’re ready for a war if Imran Khan wants it. But Pakistan must remember that India has a bigger army and better equipment. It is better if Pakistan aims for better ties between the countries,” Minister said.
