Modugula Venu Gopal Reddy, TDP MLA from Guntur West, has resigned to the primary membership of the party on Tuesday. His political journey in the TDP, which spanned over 10 years, has come to an end days before the elections.
Back to back blows and an unexpected development for Chandrababu Naidu as many MLAs walked out till date. Naidu gave him MLA ticket only on the promise that he would be given the cabinet post and when it didn’t happen Venu Gopal Reddy openly accused Naidu of cheating him with false promises.
Before joining TDP in 2009, Venu Gopal Reddy was a member of Praja Rajyam Party (PRP). Floated by Chiranjeevi. He defeated V Bala Shourie of the Congress from Narasaraopet LS constituency. In 2014 elections too, Reddy was fielded from the Guntur West Assembly segment and managed to win.
Now, Modugula is likely to join YSRCP as he quitted TDP. The reason to quit TDP is that he is among the 40 TDP MLAs who might be denied the party ticket this time. Several MLAs and MPs have joined the YSRCP in the last two months and it is a major blow to TDP. Out of 175 seats, the YSRCP had won 67 seats in 2014 assembly elections and many changes in TDP this year will help YSRCP to dethrone Naidu.
