H Vinoth recently stated in an interview with Galatta Plus that the "knowledge" he can impart about the setting of the story is more important to him than the "plot" of his films. Ironically enough, aside from Nirav Shah's extremely elegant cinematography, that tale is what makes Thunivu the greatest. You assume it to be a heist. You suddenly realise that it is a robbery inside a heist. Let's just pretend there is a third layer after that. Instead of the formulaic Shankar-style vigilante action movie it turns out to be, with or without a few changes from the Gentleman pattern, this might have been a thrilling thriller if the premise had been explored to the utmost extent.
