After 32 years, the makers of the 1990s superhit masala entertainer 'Jamai Raja' are planning an official remake. According to reports, the remake will be co-produced by Shemraoo Entertainment and Indian Media Entertainment Network. The film, directed by A. Kodandarami Reddy and starring Anil Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit, and Hema Malini, was a box-office success.
The announcement was made on October 19, the 32nd anniversary of the film's theatrical debut. 'Jamai Raja' was an official Hindi version of the Telugu film 'Attaku Yamudu Ammayiki Mogudu,' which was about a mother-in-law/son-in-law feud.
The producers are now planning to transform the screenplay into an action comedy. According to reports, the formal announcement of the film's final cast is still pending.
Shemaroo Entertainment CEO Hiren Gada stated: "We have been pioneers in developing fresh means of entertaining India. It is critical to be current with industry trends. Our first step in reintroducing classic content to a modern audience is our collaboration with IMEN for 'Jamai Raja.' They have demonstrated skill and the necessary insight to create engaging material and rework the classic on such a wide scale."
Meanwhile, Anil Kapoor will next be featured in an untitled online series that is an official remake of the Hollywood series 'The Night Manager,' opposite actors Aditya Roy Kapur and Shobhita Dhulipala. Aside from that, he has director Siddharth Anand's next action film 'Fighter,' in which he co-stars with Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone, and 'Animal,' in which he co-stars with Ranbir Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna.
On the other hand, Madhuri was recently seen in 'Maja Maa,' which gained widespread acclaim.
