Director Venkat Prabhu opens up on Maanadu being compared to Tenet

Director Venkat Prabhu and Simbu joined hands with producer Suresh Kamatchi for a political satire film. Though there were minor hiccups before the film went on floors, Maanadu's shooting began last year. But, it was halted due to the novvel coronavirus pandemic and the shooting resumed in November 2020. On February 3, director Venkat Prabhu released the teaser of Maanadu as a gift to Simbu on his 38th birthday. Soon after the teaser was released, fans revealed that the teaser is an Indianised version of Christopher Nolan's Tenet, which released last year in theatres across the country.

Director Venkat Prabhu took to Twitter to address the concerns in a funny way. Since the teaser had the words, "Time waits for no one. What if it waits for one? (sic)," many thought that film has something to do with time travel. However, Venkat Prabhu has now reacted to the fans regarding rumours about Maanadu's storyline. Venkat Prabhu wrote, "I am very honored that people are comparing our #maanaaduteaser with #tenet but unfortunately this ain’t connected with it! To be honest even I didn’t understand #tenet wait for our trailer! Then u might compare us with some other film!! ;)) #aVPpolitics (sic)."
