February 24 marks the birth anniversary of Iron Woman J Jayalalithaa. She ventured into the Tamil film industry as an actress and eventually became a politician. Her steep growth in becoming the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister is nothing short of extraordinary. She is fondly called Puratchi Thalaivi Amma by her ardent followers. As reported earlier, a biopic is being made under titled Thalaivi starring Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut. Directed by AL Vijay, the film, which is being the main two parts is produced by Vishnu Vardhan Induri and Shailesh R Singh.

On the birth anniversary of Jayalalithaa, the makers of Thalaivi announced the film's release date. The film will be releasing in theatres on April 23 across the globe. Apart from the Tamil version, Thalaivi will also release in Telugu and Hindi. Arvind Swamy has been roped in to play the role of MG Ramachandran aka MGR. Madhubala will play VN Janaki, Prakash Raj will be seen as M Karunanidhi. Jisshu Sengupta, Poorna, Bhagyashree, and Samuthirakani have been signed on to play important roles in the film. The second part will release later this year.
