Karthi was last seen on the big screen in 2019 when his film Thambi with director Jeethu Joseph released for Christmas. In the film, he shared the screen space with his sister-in-law Jyotika, veteran actors Sathyaraj and Sowkar Janaki. TIt has been a year and Karthi was busy with the shooting of Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan and Bakkiyaraj Kannan's upcoming film Sulthan. Bakkiyaraj Kannan made his directorial debut with Sivakarthikeyan and Keerthy Suresh's Remo. After Remo, Bakkiyaraj Kannan worked hard to bring the script of Sulthan to life.
The shooting of Sulthan began sometime in 2019 and the shoot was wrapped up a couple of months ago. Now, the film is currently in the post-production phase and is getting ready for release. Due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, the film's release had to be postponed. Now that the theatres have reopened, Sulthan makers have an update. The teaser of Sulthan will release on February 1 at 5 in the evening. Producer SR Prabhu of Dream Warrior Pictures took to Twitter to reveal the release date and team of Sulthan. The film marks Rashmika Mandanna's debut in Tamil.
