Actor Siddharth of Rang De Basanti fame claims that security guards at the Madurai airport recently harassed him and his parents. He claimed that despite being instructed to do so, they kept speaking to them in Hindi. On his Instagram Stories, he discussed his experience and posted a photo from the airport. He continued by saying that when they retaliated against them, they said that "This is how it is in India."
Siddharth posted the image on his Instagram Stories and stated, "Harassed for 20 mins @ Madurai airport by CRPF. They made my senior parents remove coins from their bags! And repeatedly talked to us in Hindi after being told to speak in English." He mistakenly tagged CRPF in the message rather than CISF (Central Industrial Security Force).
This year, Siddharth appeared in the web series Escaype Live on Disney+ Hotstar. It featured Jaaved Jaaferi and focused on the negative aspects of social networking.
Siddharth was arrested in January for his tweet disparaging star Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal. According to a senior police official, a complaint has been filed under IPC Section 509 (word, gesture, or act intended to offend the modesty of women). The case was registered under the pertinent portions of the Information Technology Act. Later, he apologised in front of the public. He called his remark a "rude joke" and acknowledged that he was unable to "justify my tone and words."
Saina Nehwal had tweeted about PM Narendra Modi's security breach in Punjab. And Siddharth had responded, but his remark received a lot of backlash for being sexist. Even the National Commission for Women (NCW) contacted even Twitter India to "quickly" block the actor's account.
Siddharth has participated in a number of Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil films. He is well-known for his co-starring role in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's Rang De Basanti with Aamir Khan. He will now appear in Indian 2, which stars Kamal Haasan. Nedumudi Venu, Sudeep, Gulshan Grover, Kajal Aggarwal, and Rakul Preet Singh are also featured in the movie.
