Siddharth Malhotra Talks About His Spy Thriller Mission Majnu

In a recent interview, Sidharth Malhotra and Rashmika Mandanna talked about their movie Mission Majnu. Sidharth plays Tariq, an Indian spy operating in Pakistan, while Rashmika plays Nasreen, a Pakistani. Siddharth also discussed how it compares to Alia Bhatt's 2018 film Raazi. On January 20, Mission Majnu became available on Netflix.

According to the creators, the 1970s-set Mission Majnu was "inspired by true occurrences." In it, RAW spy Sidharth Malhotra is seen carrying out India's "deadliest covert operation" in Pakistan. Some people compared the movie to Raazi after the teaser for it debuted earlier this year. The 1971 film starring Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal was based on the story of Sehmat. She was a 20-year-old Kashmiri spy who was married to a Pakistani Army officer (Vicky). And she used her position as a conduit for intelligence to the Indian Army.

Sidharth acknowledged the comparison between Mission Majnu and Raazi in a recent interview. "It is never a bad thing if people are trying to find a reference point for a film. It (Raazi) is a good film. It doesn't feel like it (the comparison) is such an alarming thing. Yes, the elements on the outer periphery seeing the trailer might look similar. It is in the same decade (1970s), has similar elements, but I think the experience is completely different. It is only fair to speak to people after January 20 (Mission Majnu's release date), once they see the film... I think it is fair (the comparison), and we will have a better conversation when the film is out and we could discuss it. Comparison with a good film is always welcome, it is not a bad thing at all," Sidharth Malhotra said in the interview.

Shantanu Bagchi is the director of Mission Majnu, which Ronnie Screwvala, Amar Butala, and Garima Mehta also co-produced. Sidharth had previously revealed a few sneak peeks of his appearance in Mission Majnu.
