At a private hospital in Chennai, popular Kollywood playback singer Bamba Bakya died suddenly. He reportedly was hospitalized after becoming unwell. Nevertheless, despite undergoing treatment, he passed away.

Singer Bamba Bakya, who performed on a few popular Tamil songs for composer A.R. Rahman, has passed away. He was 49. His most recent musical contribution was the Ponni Nadhi song in the upcoming Ponniyin Selvan film by Mani Ratnam. He was well-known for his baritone and had performed in movies like 2.0 with Rajinikanth, Sarkar with Vijay, and Sarvam Thaala Mayam with GV Prakash.

Kollywood stars shared their disbelief at the information. "Really saddened by the sudden demise of Bamba Bakiya. I pray that his family and friends have the strength to bear this huge loss."

"A great singer is no more. Pullinangal will always resonate in our ears,” tweeted lyricist Vivek, who collaborated with him on the Sarkar song "Simtaangaran." Additionally, Bakya sang the solo song Raati, which was written by Santhosh Dhayanidhi. Despite going by the name Bhakkiyaraj, everyone in the music business called him Bamba Bakya. Bamba Bakya stated in interviews that when he performed solo for the first time for a movie, in 2.0, AR Rahman asked him to sing like South African musician Bamba, and as a result, named him 'Bamba Bakya', and that name endured.
