The sequel, The Dirty Picture 2, is currently being written by Kanika Dhillon. The character played by Vidya has been approached by Kriti Sanon, TaapseePannu, and others.
Kanika Dhillon and Ekta Kapoor intend to revive The Dirty Picture one of the biggest hits, among the many sequels. A sequel is planned for the movie, which is one of the riskiest commercial Bollywood productions. The Dirty Picture 2 is anticipated to have an entirely different plot and the cast of performers from the first film. It was based on the life of Silk Smitha. According to rumors, Kriti Sanon and TaapseePannu are presently under consideration for the position. The role was before performed by Vidya Balan.
In a recent article, Peeping Moon cited a source who stated, "Producer Ekta Kapoor has been planning a sequel to The Dirty Picture for a long time. And she has finally cracked an idea after exploring dozens of them over the years. Screenplay writer Kanika Dhillon, who’s known for writing critically-acclaimed female-led stories. She wrote Manmarziyaan, HaseenDillruba, Judgementall Hai Kya, and Rashmi. She has been brought on board to pen this film. She is writing the script along with a male writer and is expected to finish it by year's end. Ekta and her team at Balaji Motion Pictures are excited about this project. They plan to take it to the floors in the first quarter of 2023.”
The source further said TaapseePannu and Kriti Sanon are interested in taking the lead roles. "Ekta wanted to cast Kangana Ranaut, but she has politely turned down the offer. She doesn’t want to disturb her righteous image. Taapsee, Kriti, and others have expressed their interest. Ekta has requested them to wait until the writing is finished,"
