Veteran Actress Sarada Passes Away

Kozhikode Sarada, a well-known Malayalam actor, died at the age of 75. She had been sick for a long time and was being treated for it. Sarada is said to have gone into cardiac arrest while being treated in a Kozhikode hospital.

 
Sarada's death was mourned by Kerala's Minister for Films and Culture, Saji Cherian. He described her as a "really strong actor" who will be missed. On Tuesday, her last rites would be performed in her hometown of Velliparamba in Kozhikode. Umada, Sajeev, Rajitha, and Sreejith, Sarada's four children, survive her.
 
Sarada began her career as a stage performer in Kerala's Kozhikode area. She was a part of Kozhikode's thriving theatre which gave birth to various Malayalam film stars. In 1979, she made her film debut with Ankakkuri.
 
Sarada from Kozhikode appeared in over 80 Malayalam movies, including Anubandham, Anyarude Bhoomi, Ulsavapittennu, Kuttisrank, and Kilichundan Mampazham. She got a critical appreciation for her role as the mother of Manoj K Jayan's character in the 1996 film Sallapam.
 
Several Malayalam film personalities expressed their condolences on her death. Prithviraj Sukumaran expressed his grief on Twitter.
 
KPAC Lalitha, another senior Malayalam actor, was recently hospitalized for liver problems and is said to have recovered after being treated in the ICU. She was apparently admitted to a hospital in Thrissur about ten days ago, and on November 7, she was transferred to a private hospital in Kochi.
 
Sarada also appeared in television series in addition to films.
