Lakshmi`s NTR Story:
Lakshmi's NTR directed by Ram Gopal Varma unintentionally seems like the continuation of NTR Mahanayakudu. The film set in the year 1989 showcases the entry of Lakshmi Parvathi (Yagna Shetty) into NT Rama Rao's life. She initially gets in touch with him to write his biography. Eventually, she becomes his caretaker and his second wife too.
NTR's move did not go down well with his daughters and sons. Also, his son-in-law Nara Chandrababu Naidu instils fear in the minds of his children and they all plot against her downfall.
Chandrababu Naidu states that Lakshmi Parvathi would take over Telugu Desam party and plans to stage a coup against her to get the CM post. How NTR reacts to the issue and the last days of his life are delved upon.
Lakshmi`s NTR Performances:
*Ram Gopal Varma's casting is always perfect and his work in Lakshmi's NTR is no different. P Vijay Kumar reprises NTR in the film and his look is spot on. He has also delivered a neat performance. Since he is relatively a new actor, his immaturity is shown in a few scenes.
*The asset of Lakshmi's NTR is Yagna Shetty's brilliant performance as Lakshmi Parvathi. The story is told from her perspective and her strong performance has really lifted the dull movie.
*Lakshmi's NTR is all about Lakshmi Parvathi and Nara Chandrababu Naidu. Sri Tej has essayed the role of Chandrababu Naidu. Known as the backstabber, Tej's menacing looks and snarky mannerisms are perfect for the role.
Lakshmi`s NTR Positives:
*Unlike NTR Kathanayakudu and NTR Mahanayakudu, Ram Gopal Varma has refrained from glorifying NTR as a god. Instead, he has shown a realistic side to the actors and those who are associated with him.
*The second half of Lakshmi's NTR is brilliantly written. It has all the necessary elements to make the audience engrossed in the screenplay. Especially, the scenes who exposes Chandrababu Naidu's cunning behaviour were written and enacted properly.
*Ram Gopal Varma should be applauded for incorporating a kickass interval sequence for Lakshmi's NTR. In fact, it is one of the high points of the film and has been handled effectively.
*Another positive point of Lakshmi's NTR is Kalyani Malik's music. From Vennupotu to Dhaga, her songs have elevated the mood of the film.
Lakshmi`s NTR Negatives:
*The slow pace of Lakshmi's NTR is a huge drawback. The first half shows how the relationship between Lakshmi Parvathi and NTR ended up in marriage. Those portions were too slow for its own good.
Many important dialogues that could give a punch to a certain scene have been muted by the censor board. But the production values and the setting of the story are shoddy.
Lakshmi`s NTR Verdict:
Overall, Lakshmi's NTR could have been a great biopic, but it is bogged down by a sluggish screenplay that is draggy for the most part. However, there are few goosebumps-inducing scenes that will rekindle memories.
