Anukoni Athidhi Story:

Nandha(Fahadh Faasil), the head of psychiatry department, Trivandrum Medical college is deputed at a mental asylum, operated by Benjamin following multiple allegations regarding the spike in suicide cases at the medical facility. He takes interest in Nitya(Sai Pallavi), an inmate and starts digging deep into her case. Nandha’s special interest in Nitya irks Benjamin and he starts plotting against the former. What is Nitya’s backstory? Can Nandha crack the mystery behind her case?

Anukoni Athidhi Analysis:

Anukoni Athidhi is a dubbed version of Athiran which released back in 2019. The film stars two powerhouses Fahadh Faisal and Sai Pallavi in the lead roles. The duo deliver stunning performances and shoulder the film. Especially, Sai Pallavi comes up with a clap-worthy performance as she excels in the role of a complex lady with autism. Atul Kulkarni plays the bad guy and he looks apt. Prakash Raj's cameo is brief yet impactful.

The film starts off with a murder scene and that sets the stage for what’s to follow. However, the proceedings unfold at a slow pace which takes a toll on the movie-watching experience. The penultimate portions do not have the excitement factor which is a must for thriller dramas.

The mental asylum is projected as a dark and demonic enclosure but the intensity goes down as the film progresses. The antagonist thread is underwhelming and does not have desired amount of impact on the story.

Sai Pallavi exhibits her Kalari skills and her spellbinding performance is one of the main assets of the film. There are a few thrills here and there through the course of the film but they don’t quite gel with the narrative and thus, end up being incoherent. The director Vivek should have come up with a better screenplay to make the middle portion more engaging.

The plush locales are captured with great finesse by the cinematographer Anoo Muthedath. Background music is equally good as well.

The real standout is the exhilarating climax. The big reveal is worth the wait and it is presented very well. The climax twist is novel and ends the film on a high.

Anukoni Athidhi is a slow-paced thriller drama with a stellar climax. The film is powered by great performances from the lead cast. But the middle portion tests the patience of the viewers. The film makes for a one-time watch.
