Directed by Dani de la Orden, the rom-com Crazy about Her stars Álvaro Cervantes and Susana Abaitua in leading roles. The film also features Clara Segura, Aixa Villagran, Paula Malia, Nil Cardoner, Txel Aixendri and Alberto San Juan in supporting roles.
On a seemingly normal night at a bar with his friend Adri (Álvaro Cervantes) meets the enigmatic Carla. The two have a magical night together. All Adri wants to do afterward is to find her. Except, a clause of no names, no numbers and no strings attached makes it hard for him to find. After some digging to find some information, Adri realizes that Carla is living in a mental health facility. Adri then checks himself into the facility. How does Adri navigate the facility and will he and Carla find love is the crux of the film.
The cast of Crazy about Her delivers some of the best performances seen in recent years. The two leads Álvaro Cervantes and Susana Abaitua have perfect on screen chemistry. Both actors effortlessly embody the changes that their characters go through and manage to depict the emotional nuances in the film perfectly. The supporting actors that play the other characters in the facility that are dealing with mental health issues also strike a chord with their brilliant performance.
Crazy about Her has all that goes into making the perfect rom-com: a good love story, fast-paced humour, brilliant cinematography, a good soundtrack and a great cast. The script is just perfect. You might find yourself laughing out loud one minute, and on an emotional rollercoaster the next. All the characters in the film are funny on their own, but the humour that arises when they interact is fabulous. The airtight script connects the leading pair's journey and the supporting characters' stories to deliver a film that is a wholesome.
While the pace of the film is just right, the scenes leading up to the climax seem a little bit rushed. The film could have used an extra couple of minutes.
If you're a fan of romantic comedies, Crazy about Her is the perfect film for you. A lot could go wrong when a rom-com deals with mental health issues. But Crazy about Her presents stories effortlessly without any suggestions or judgments. Crazy about Her's run-time is just an hour and fourthly two minutes long. So grab a bowl of popcorn and enjoy this fabulous and wholesome romantic comedy.
