Muskaan, a student from the US is coming to Hyderabad to interview multiple people and document several stories regarding George Reddy, the rebellious student leader. Killed at the age of 25, his life is an interesting story worth documenting.
George Reddy (Sandeep Madhav) steps into Osmania University with a bang as he starts bashing up seniors who rag others. He also teaches students and teachers about discrimination against caste and ragging.
Eventually, George Reddy becomes a leader and gets caught in student politics. Even though he is in politics, he is a topper in studies and also gets a call from the famous Bombay University. The motivations behind killing him form the rest of the story.
Sandeep Madhav is perfect as the rebellious leader George Reddy. He has got the bravado of a student leader and his body language is perfect for the character that he has played.
It looks like Abhay Bethiganti is born to play supporting roles. In the film, he plays Sandeep’s sidekick. But, for a change, the actor appears in a lengthy role.
Satyadev’s role could have been written better, but it was an utter waste and an opportunity lost. The girl Muskaan who admires George Reddy has played her role well. Chaitanya Krishna and Shatru have delivered decent performances.
George Reddy is a film that had a positive word of mouth even before the film released, thanks to its intriguing trailer and teasers. The subject that the film dealt with is impressive.
The film’s initial segments where the director introduces George Reddy and his ideologies are goosebumps-inducing. Especially, the segments where he rebels against the injustice meted out to the students are excellent.
The production design and art director Gandhi recreated the Osmania University in an excellent manner. It reeks of nostalgia and rekindles all positive anecdotes regarding history.
Sudhakar Yekkenti’s cinematography is apt for the movie and the lighting has elevated the film’s picturesque locations. The songs and background music are a huge advantage to the film.
The film’s initial stretch is interesting to watch, but it gets diluted as the story progresses. The director has failed to concentrate on the film’s screenplay in etching powerful sequences.
The film also has many powerful sequences but they all go wasted because of poor execution. The storyline also turns predictable after a certain point, which is another problem.
George Reddy, the biopic on the student leader makes for an interesting script, but it's a let down by poor execution. Sandeep Madhav’s performance is arresting and so is the film’s production design.
