The story revolves around four friends. The film introduces Vidyut Jamwal as Phagun who is seen hanging out with two of his old friends at a family gathering. Suddenly, the fourth friend who spent 11 years in jail enters the scene which creates new disturbances and problems in the lives of the trio. The rest of the story is about how the trio safeguards themselves and fight for their long lost friend.
Vidyut Jamwal has partly justified his role as a gang leader. Though he has delivered the best performance in the action sequences, he still has to concentrate more on his acting skills. Especially, in the emotional scenes, his acting fell flat in the second half. Amit Sadh did a really good job of essaying his role. He definitely did a good job and steals the attention with his performance. Shruti Haasan doesn't have a big role to showcase her performance. However, she is good in her role. The rest of the cast including Vijay Varma, Kenny Basumatary, etc didn't add much to the film. Sanjay Mishra's cameo appearance is enjoyable.
The director succeeded in showcasing the relationship between four friends. Though he has started the film in an engaging way, he failed to maintain the same pace of narration until the end. His direction failed badly especially in the second half where the slow-paced screenplay will irk most of the audience. Despite succeeding in impressing the audience in some moments, the rest of the film is quite boring. Music is also not up to the mark and we can say that none of the tunes has impressed the audience. The camera works and editing are just fine.
The biggest plus point of the film is the starting 40 minutes. The movie starts in an engaging manner and the story about how the four friends got together and their bank jobs is showcased really well. However, the movie lost its pace after the 40 minutes mark. Especially, the second half is quite irritating and fails to grab our attention. The emotional scenes felt like melodramatic events. Though the movie is the remake of a French film 'Les Lyonnais', the second half felt like a regular emotional film. The sloppy second half and the performances became the major setbacks of the film. Overall, 'Yaara' is just an average film and can be skipped.
