Fifteen people died after a compound wall collapsed and damaged three houses in Mettupalayam in Tamil Nadu's Coimbatore district on Monday morning amid heavy rainfall, authorities stated. The authorities have confirmed that the incident happened due to incessant rains that have wreaked havoc in the state.

 
Bodies of all the 15 victims recovered which includes four men and a child. While rescue operations to help people trapped in the debris are underway. Meanwhile, heavy rainfall is likely to continue in parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. A team of fire and rescue services and revenue officials reached the spot at around 5 am and recovered the bodies of all the 15 victims, including four women and a child.
 
The rescue team said more people could get trapped in the debris and that the toll might increase. The operation to rescue people is on and the bodies sent for post mortem, police said.
 
The weather department has sounded a red alert for the state’s six districts, including Chennai, saying these regions would receive heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours.
 
The district administrations in Chennai, Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur, Cuddalore, Ramanathapuram, Nilgiris, Thoothukudi and Kancheepuram have declared holidays for all educational institutions as a precautionary measure.
