It is very rare that I post as a doctor. I am unable to stop talking about many people ignorant about coronavirus. It is my responsibility to say so too! There is a lot to be said but I will try to write important things in this post.
Important things for those who have no patience to read the whole:
No one is an exception to the coronavirus. Including Indians! Coronavirus doesn't know "How great Indians are". Take it seriously!
The present coronavirus name is Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The disease caused by it is called coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
COVID-19 has no vaccine. It can take at least a year to get the vaccine prepared.
COVID-19 has no treatment. Various types of HIV drugs and other antivirals are being investigated in all countries. So far there is no definitive treatment or medication.
Being a newly emerging virus, no one in the world is immune from this disease. Epidemiologists estimate that half of the world is infected with coronavirus if it is not controlled. They estimate that if this happens, millions of people will die in the US alone.
Symptoms caused by COVID-19 are especially dry cough, fever, difficulty breathing.
COVID-19 patients spread from one to another in respiratory droplets when sneezed. As such, people should use masks to avoid the spread of infection.
The virus can survive for 3 hours to 3 days on surfaces. This is why it is essential to wash hands and not touch the face with hands.
Most of the symptoms begin within 5 days after exposure to the COVID-19 virus. However, symptoms can begin within 2-14 days. This is why COVID-19 should be quarantined for 14 days. If you are sure that a person has symptoms or got infected, it's better to stay away from them.
COVID-19 is at least ten times more lethal than routine influenza (flu).
About 80% of people with COVID-19 recover from mild symptoms (cough, fever). About 10-20 per cent of people require hospital admission. 2-3% of people die from the disease. Most of the people who die are old people, people with diseases like heart disease and diabetes.
With this, social distancing has to be done to reduce casualties. This means isolates people, cancel events, and prevent people from gathering in groups.
This is a situation we have never seen before. This is something our generation is going to remember!
