With the highest single-day spike of 49,310 cases, India's COVID-19 cases crossed 13 lakh on Friday, while deaths reported from across the country tallied to 740. As the total deaths linked to the pandemic crossed 30,000, India overtook France in this regard.
As the country is gripped in the fear and uncertainty with the growing numbers of corona related infections and deaths, Central Health Minister Harsha Vardhan on Friday pointed out that India has one of the lowest COVID-19 infection and death rate in the world. With less than 21 deaths/million population, the country's recovery rate is 63.45% and 2.3% mortality rate. In the midst of all the sad turn of events unfolding across the country, a ray hope shined at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi. The phase-1 human trial of Covaxin was tested for its safety on a 30-year-old first test volunteer with no visible side effects.
Speaking about the trials, Dr. Sanjay Rai - a professor at AIIMS informed that under 2 hour observation period the person showed no immediate side-effects and he will be monitored for the next seven days. The novel coronavirus has infected 1.54 crore people worldwide out of which 6.32 lakh people have succumbed to the Covid19 pandemic.
