IPL 2021: Mumbai Indians prove why they are a CHAMPION side

Mumbai set KKR a target of 153 runs after an under-par batting performance in the first innings. KKR looked to be well in control for most parts of the game but choked in the final five overs when it mattered the most.

31 were needed of the final 5 overs and with 6 wickets in hand, it seemed like a walk in the park for Kolkata Knight Riders but they kept finding ways to lose wickets and exert unnecessary pressure on themselves which ultimately cost them the match. Mumbai bowlers were at their usual best in the final stages and the team, as a whole never lost hope till the very end.

Suryakumar Yadav was brilliant with the bat in the first innings as he scored 56 runs off 36 balls on what seemed like a slow track. With a mini-collapse towards the end of the innings, Mumbai posted 152 runs on the scoreboard.

KKR started off very well with the openers Nitish Rana (57) and Gill (33) putting on 72 runs for the opening partnership. But things fell apart after Rana was dismissed in the 15th over and it was downhill so forth.

Russel couldn’t connect with his slog swipes across the line of the ball and neither could Karthik. Bumrah bowled a superb 19th over and conceded just 4 runs. Boult was given the responsibility of defending 15 runs in the final over which he did in an authoritative manner, giving away just 4 runs and picking up 2 wickets including the dangerous Russel.

SunRisers Hyderabad will take on Royal Challengers Bangalore in tomorrow’s encounter.
