A spirited knock from RCB’s talismanic player AB de Villiers secured a victory for the Virat Kohli-led side. This is the first time RCB has won a season opener and they have set a franchise record with yesterday’s victory over Mumbai.
Batting first, Mumbai managed to score just 159 runs after getting a bright start and a stead 2nd wicket partnership. At one stage, 180 looked a formality as Suryakumar Yadav(31 runs) and Chris Lynn(49) were batting together. But the men in blue could score only 31 runs off the final 5 overs and that came back to haunt them in the second innings.
Glenn Maxwell who made his debut for RCB with this game score played well for his 39 and it was AB de Villiers(48) who had to steer them home for the nth time in his RCB career.
RCB ended up winning the close encounter with 2 wickets in hand and beating the defending champions Mumbai Indians should give them a confident booster early in the tournament.
As for today’s match, Chennai Super Kings will be taking on the last year’s finalists Delhi Capitals in what promises to be a crunch clash. The match will be played at the iconic Wankhede stadium and it will be kicking off at 7:30 PM.
