Jio will charge 6 paise/minute for calls made to other networks to recover Interconnect Usage Charges, which Jio pays to the rivals for connecting calls of its subscribers. Jio said it receives 25-30 crore missed calls daily and this “missed call phenomenon” converts incoming calls to outgoing.
The company said it paid net IUC charges of ₹13,500 crores in 3 years. Jio said it will give more data entitlement of equal value based on IUC top-up voucher consumption. “This will make sure no increase in tariff for customers,” Jio said.
Jio said the 6 paise per minute charge will not apply on all Jio to Jio calls, all incoming calls, Jio to landline calls and calls made using WhatsApp or FaceTime and similar platforms. The charges will continue only till the time TRAI abolishes IUC.
The following top-up vouchers will be available for customers to suit their requirements: For ₹10 IUC top-up voucher, users will get 1GB free data and 124 IUC minutes. For the ₹20 voucher, customers will get 2 GB free data and 249 IUC minutes. For the ₹50 top-up vouchers, customers will get 5 GB free data and 656 IUC minutes. For the ₹100 top-up vouchers, customers will get 10 GB free data and 1,362 IUC minutes.
