President Ram Nath Kovind has appointed Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde as the 47th Chief Justice of India and he is set to take oath on November 18.
His name got recommended by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi earlier this month. Notably, Justice Bobde had headed the committee that investigated the sexual harassment allegations against CJI Gogoi.
President Ram Nath Kovind on Tuesday, 29 October signed a warrant appointing Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde as the next Chief Justice of India.
Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi on 18 October had sent a letter to the Centre recommending Justice Bobde, who is next in seniority, as his successor.
According to the Memorandum of Procedure which governs the appointment of members of the higher judiciary, “appointment to the office of the Chief Justice of India should be of the senior-most judge of the Supreme Court considered fit to hold the office”.
Justice Bobde will reportedly take oath as CJI on 18 November.
