K. Madhavan, President and Country Manager of The Walt Disney Company India and Star India, has been selected as the President of the Indian Broadcasting and Digital Foundation (IBDF). K. Madhavan was elected as the President of the IBDF at the 23rd Annual General Meeting held in Delhi. This is the third time in a row that K. Madhavan has been unanimously elected by the board. IBDF is the apex body of television broadcasters and digital streaming platforms in India.
K Madhavan called for a comprehensive national broadcasting policy in the field of media and entertainment at the "Big Picture" conference organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry, CII. 5G is a huge opportunity for the Indian media and entertainment sectors. India's media sector should also change with the changing times. K. Madhavan, Chairman of the National Committee of CII Media and Entertainment, said that the media sector in India has not achieved even one percent share of the GDP.
K. Madhavan said that South Korea is an example in this regard. In this situation, it is imperative to use the potential for development and innovation. K. Madhavan said that there is a huge potential in the gaming sector in the country, but the implementation of various laws in various states is causing confusion.
Telecom Regulatory Authority of India Chairman PD Vaghela said that the policy will be implemented in the media sector in line with the revolution in technology. PD Vaghela also stated that India will be the world leader in 5G deployment. TRAI chairman said that there will be steps to avoid media ownership shrinking in the hands of a few. At the "Big Picture" conference PD Vaghela said that the consultation for direct-to-mobile systems like DTH is going on.
