Kerala government challenges CAA in Supreme court

As the whole nation erupts after the CAA bill passed in the parliament, the government of Kerala took an extreme step by challenging the Modi government’s decision in the supreme court. Kerala is the first state to do so.

Kerala government, which recently passed a resolution of CAA in its assembly, filed a plea under article 131 of the constitution. The supreme court will hear the disputed between the Indian government and the one or a few states. Kerala was also the first state assembly to move a resolution against CAA.

In its petition, the Kerala Government stated that the CAA is against one of the fundamental rights of Indian citizen secularism and declared to be violative of Articles 14, 21 and 25 of the Constitution.

Kerala CM Vijayan wrote to 11 Non-BJP CMs asking them to take similar steps on this controversial law.
