Two men on a bike snatched the handbag of PM Narendra Modi’s niece Damayanti Ben Modi, from a moving auto in North Delhi’s Civil Lines area on Saturday. She has filed a case of snatching with a police station. Damayanti said she was travelling in auto and was carrying around ₹56,000 in cash, two mobile phones and important documents in her handbag.
The incident took place just outside the main gate of Gujarati Samaj Bhavan in the Civil Lines area. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s official residence situated a few kilometres from the spot. The police said a case registered and efforts are on to nab the culprits.
Several incidents of snatching have reported in the recent past in Delhi raising concerns over policing in the city. Last month, a woman journalist was seriously injured when two men on a motorbike snatched her mobile phone while she was travelling in an auto in south Delhi’s CR Park area.
